Shipping research institute in Shanghai hosts China Shipping Database

A FREE public information platform, called the China Shipping Database, has been launched to provide data on China's maritime community to serve government agencies, shipping and port companies, research and educational institutions.

Run by the Shanghai International Shipping Research Institute, an official think-tank for China's shipping industry, the database also provides a raft of economic indicators on China's macro-economy as well as major industries such as coal, iron ore, energy and automobiles.

"With an attempt to classify related data in a scientific way and sort out their correlations, the database focuses on China shipping and port related data, which constitutes a brand new option for domestic shipping and port industry players to facilitate their decision-making and research," said a statement on www.shippingdata.cn.

The Shanghai International Shipping Research Institute was set up in 2008 by 22 organisations including Shanghai Maritime University, China Shipping, Shanghai International Port Group and Shanghai Maritime Safety Authorities.
